Almost 20% of people who talk to advisers 'want mortgage help'

Almost a fifth of people who visit an independent financial adviser (IFA) want help or information on mortgages, according to new research.
The study by Unbiased.co.uk found that 19 per cent of consumers who spoke to advisers at the start of this year talked about home loans, while three per cent asked about equity release.
It was also revealed that people mostly talk to IFAs about retirement planning and investments, with mortgages the third most popular topic.
David Elms, chief executive of Unbiased.co.uk, said: "Our latest report demonstrates that when economic conditions are unpredictable, consumers seek independent financial advisers as their guides through hazardous markets.
"Consumer needs are constantly changing and whole-of-market IFAs are the best-positioned of all advice types to serve these needs."
Recent research by Saga found that mortgages are one of the most openly discussed financial issues in the UK.
People under-50 are more likely to discuss their home loan type or mortgage provider than how much they earn.
