Buy-to-let opportunities 'to arise over the next year'

People who are interested in entering the buy-to-let market have been advised that opportunities could be set to arise in the next year.

Lee Grandin, the managing director of Landlord Mortgages, has that while openings in the sector are expected to emerge, it is "difficult to call when the market has bottomed out".

He explained that it would be argued that landlords are already acquiring properties which are up to 30 per cent under current market value.

"You could then say that it could be a good purchase based on the likelihood of house prices generally going down," he said.

"However, there is always the possibility that it could actually drop further so it is all to do with what you perceive to be a good deal."

According to recent figures from Nationwide, house prices fell for the sixth consecutive month in April.

The same research also found that the average cost of a property in the UK is £178,555.
