Charity wants new mortgage system in place

A Welsh housing charity has called for a new system for people who fall behind on their mortgage payments.
Research from Shelter Cymru has revealed that mortgage holders who are having problems with payments find lenders inflexible.
John Pritchard, of Shelter Cymru, told BBC Radio: "Our research - and other evidence - shows that often lenders are not encouraging borrowers to look at their options, they''re not giving borrowers enough options, so they''re not dealing with individual cases on the individual basis of that case."
He added that this protocol would "encourage more pre-action contact" between the lender and the borrower in order to try and avoid repossessions.
Lenders have defended themselves, saying they have a "rigorous approach" before taking court action.
Shelter Cymru is the leading homelessness and housing charity in Wales. It campaigns for housing solutions that are affordable and meet needs and provides independent advice through various methods.
