Couples have better chance of getting on property ladder

Couples will find it a lot easier to get into the property market than single people, according to Fool.co.uk.

The company has said that it is becoming increasingly difficult for single people to get onto the property ladder in the UK.

David Kuo, head of personal finance at Fool.co.uk, said: "I think the market is such that a single person on a single wage will [find it] impossible to get onto the housing ladder. In London in particular, you''re talking about ten times the average salary just to get onto the housing ladder."

He added that when two people put their finances together they find it "a lot easier" and have "a lot more choice".

Mr Kuo concluded that when you combine two people''s salaries together to make it £50,000 you can multiply it by three or four and look for somewhere in the region of £200,000.

Fool.co.uk is an independent company which attempts to redefine the way people think about their finances.
