Lender wins ethical award

Chelsea Building Society has been commended for its ethical business practices after scoring highly in the Good Shopping Guide.

The UK''s fifth largest building society has was presented with the award by the Ethical Company Accreditation Scheme, which found that Chelsea ethically out-performed the majority of its peers.

After reviewing Chelsea''s corporate responsibility performance since 2007, the Ethical Company Organisation, which produces the Good Shopping Guide, gave the mortgage lender a "top score" of 81 out of 100.

Liz Artner, corporate responsibility manager at Chelsea, said "We are so proud to achieve this award."

"It is great to obtain third party endorsement of how far our corporate responsibility programme has come this year," she added.

The Good Shopping Guide, which is in its sixth edition, has more than 70 products sections and gives ethical information on more than 700 brands, covering everything from travel and beauty to mortgage and savings products.
