Northern Rock mortgage holders 'don't need to worry'

Mortgage holders with Northern Rock do not need to worry at all, according to Moneywise magazine.

The personal finance website has told customers of the bank that mortgage holders are the "least troubled" out of people that have a link with the bank.

Rachel Lacey, editor of Moneywise magazine''s website, moneywise.co.uk, said: "For mortgage borrowers it shouldn''t be too much of a problem, it''s just the case that when the time comes around for them to re-mortgage they need to shop around across the whole of the market."

She added that it is shareholders who have suffered and they are "the victims of this".

After the nationalisation of Northern Rock, the bank issued a statement on its website which said that customers are not affected by the change and the bank is "conducting ''business as usual''".

The decision by the Office of National Statistics to add the cost of supporting Northern Rock to its figures regarding the UK''s national debt has increased the amount by £100 billion, according to the Daily Telegraph.
